John Stephen Davis, a long-time Tyler resident and cherished business owner, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2026, at the age of 70. Born in Beaumont, Texas, on September 21, 1955, to Fred and Jessie Tittle Davis, John moved to Tyler at the age of two and grew up alongside his siblings, Pam and Marcus.
John was a natural-born salesman who could sell anything, and he never met a stranger. He started his career journey working in used car sales and hardware sales before discovering roofing- the true love of his professional life. This passion led him to successfully own and operate Roofmaster for 30 years.
An outdoorsman at heart, John loved nothing more than spending time with his favorite dogs or tracking down his next big catch in Los Barriles, Panama, Colorado, Cabo or his own ranch in West Texas. When he wasn’t working, John’s favorite place to be was on his well-loved property. He spent countless peaceful hours sitting on his patio overlooking his ponds and deer feeders, enjoying the hummingbirds and fireflies. With his “brown water” a cup of coffee, and an occasional cigarette in hand, he loved taking in the view, sometimes winding down the evening by watching Shark Tank.
He leaves behind his devoted wife, Shirley Ann Davis; his step-children, Shelley Geist and Dalton Geist; his sister, Pam Davis; and his brother, Marcus Davis. His memory will also be cherished by his numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and tons of beloved Tittle cousins.
Family and friends are invited to gather and share memories during a casual Celebration of Life on Saturday, June 20, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Heritage Hall Wedding and Events (3865 FM 858, Ben Wheeler, TX 75754). A meal will be served, and the event will be BYOB and casual dress.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial donation to a cancer center of your choice to honor John’s memory.
