

John E. Flynn, age 53, passed away in the late evening hours of Sunday, January 5, 2014 at his home following a lengthy illness. John was born on January 21, 1960 in Dallas, Texas to the late Gerry and Wanda Preston Flynn. John graduated from East Texas State University in Commerce, Texas and then earned his law degree from Southern Methodist University in Dallas. He worked for the Attorney General for the State of Texas. John was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He married the love of his life and best friend, Carol Denise Otts, on November 7, 1992 in Commerce, Texas. Together they spent the next 21 years raising their children and living a lifetime of memories. John will be remembered for his love of cooking and grilling but those who knew him best will always remember his big heart and the love he had for his family.
John is survived by his wife, Carol Flynn, of Tyler; son, Bryon Otts, and wife Lindsay, of Tyler; one daughter, Brandy Otts of Tyler; five grandchildren, Wesley, Jarod, Lukas, Lani, and Kayla; and by two sisters, Mary Flynn of Greenville and Jan White of Dallas.
John was preceded in death by one son, Daniel Otts, and by one brother, Jerry Flynn.
Services for John E. Flynn will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, January 10, 2014 at Lloyd James Funeral Home with Pastor Chuck Ward officiating. Burial will follow at Harris Creek Cemetery with Charles Byrd, Robbie McCarty, Bryon Otts, Ronald Byrd, Ronnie Cubley, and Matt Walker serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M., Thursday evening at the funeral home.
