A celebration of life for John Henry Mayberry will be held at the graveside at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 26, 2023 at Whitehouse Cemetery with Rev. Sherman Mayfield officiating, under direction of Lloyd James Funeral Home.
John H. Mayberry, known as "Pete" to his friends and family, grew up on a farm in Purmela, Texas. He graduated from Gatesville High School and went on to attend Texas A&M University where he was a member of the Corps of Cadets. He graduated in 1958 with a degree in agronomy. While there, he met the love of his life, Aletha, on a blind date where she attended at Baylor University. They married on August 1, 1959 and were happily in love for 64 years. Pete served in the U.S. Army and then worked as a Federal government employee for Farmer's Home Administration until he retired in 1994. After retirement, Pete and Aletha loved to travel the world together and had many great adventures. When not traveling Pete enjoyed golfing, Aggie football and all things sports.
Pete was preceded in death by his son, John Michael Mayberry in 2012. He is survived by his wife, Aletha; daughter, Myla Mayberry; his daughter-in-law, Cindy Mayberry; grandchildren, Micah Mayberry, Madison and her husband, Nick Norsworthy.
Everyone who knew Pete says he was the kindest and most wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be sorely missed but we all praise God for His grace and mercy and we know we will be together again.
