Graveside services for Judy Tanner, of Dalhart, formerly of Tyler, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, 2011, at Cathedral in the Pines with the Rev. Jerry Phelps officiating under the direction of Lloyd James Funeral Home.
Judy passed away Thursday, April 21, 2011, and is now dancing in heaven with her Savior.
Born May 23, 1932, in Atlanta, Ga., to Frank and Miriam Powell, Judy grew up in downtown Atlanta and graduated from high school there. She attended Auburn University for several years before returning to Atlanta to work for Retail Credit Company.
She met and married David Tanner in Atlanta in 1954. Judy then began her career in retail clothing stores and had a short stint as a Realtor. Judy loved working with people and she loved talking! She never met a stranger.
After her son Chris was injured in a diving accident in 1969, at the age of 13, she spent the rest of her life caring for him until she could not physically do it anymore. After multiple back surgeries, she deteriorated to the point where she could not care for herself anymore. She moved to Dalhart with her daughter Terry in 2004 and had resided there until her death.
In her younger days, Judy loved to dance. Her 2-year-old granddaughter at the time used to say all the time "when I grow up, I am going to go dancing with Granny!" Judy also loved the sun and loved to travel when she could.
Judy is survived by her son Chris of Tyler; daughter Terry and husband Tom of Dalhart; and son Greg and wife Bonita of Tyler.
Grandchildren are the late Brie Gomez and husband Eric of Amarillo, Austin Tanner and wife Andra of Austin, Brandon White and wife Liza of Dalhart, Megan Anderson and husband Chris of Dalhart, Jordan Howard and wife Chrissy of Dalhart, and Andrea and Ish Clement of Tyler; and nine great-grandchildren; also a sister, Miriam Jones of Atlanta, Ga.
The family will receive friends from 5:30-7:30 p.m., Monday at the funeral home.
