Laymon was born June 2, 1950, to Laymon Sumner and Willie Phaup in Canton, Texas. He graduated from Canton High School and enlisted in the United States Army, proudly serving his country in Vietnam from 1970-1971. After his time in the service, he graduated with an associate's degree in Petro Chemical Engineering and worked as a truck driver.
Laymon is preceded in death by his parents, Laymon and Willie; brother, Bonnie; sister, Virginia; and wife, Michelle.
Laymon is survived by his two sons, Michael Sumner and wife Cheri, and Kenneth Sumner and wife Keri; grandchildren, Brittany Sumner, Abigail Reel and husband Dustin Reel, Austin Sumner and wife Maddie Sumner, and Cody Reel and girlfriend Ashley Hanks; and great-grandchildren, Dakota Reel, Archer Reel, Nixon Reel, Bennett Sumner, Skyler Reel, and Ryder Hanks.
Visitation will be held at Lloyd James funeral home in Tyler, Texas on Monday, August 31, 2026 from 6-8 pm. Graveside service will be held at Hillcrest Cemetery in Canton, Texas on Tuesday, September 1, 2026 at 10am with David "Scout" Bianchi officiating.
