Madie Merle Mead, a woman of unwavering Faith, went to be with Jesus on May 20th, 2023. She lived her whole adult life for that moment. She passed peacefully from this life into her new life in the comfort of her daughter, Patty Whitaker’s home in Tyler Texas where she has been for the past few months.
She was born in Bowie Texas on July 6, 1931 to E. J. (Jack) Freeman and Lena Ratley Freeman and was raised in the Simms, Texas area.
Madie was a devout Christian whose faith never waivered regardless the circumstances. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She wore many hats with many names: Mother, Mom, MiMi, Grandma, Aunt Madie and Aunt Merlie. She was always ready with a prayer and encouraging word to whoever needed it. Her career was in Insurance but her most rewarding job was that of being a Mother.
Madie is survived by her beloved children: Mickey Mead and wife, Vivian of Little Elm, Texas, Kay Mead Clakley of Tyler, Texas, Sandy Belcher and husband, Lee of Tyler, Texas, Patty Whitaker and husband, Larry of Tyler, Texas, Lori Jeanette Farris and husband, Russell of Greenwood, Arkansas. She leaves behind a legacy of numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, several siblings and her beloved son Jerry Dale Mead who passed only five months ago.
Madie loved shopping, estate sales, garage sales, decorating and crafts. She was a gospel singer and enjoyed worshipping with her friends and family.
Madie’s departure from this earthly life leaves a huge void but we find comfort in knowing she is with Jesus and her loved ones gone before.
Services for Madie will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 25, 2023 in the chapel of Lloyd James Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 10-11, one hour prior to services. A private burial will be at Rose Lawn Cemetery.
For her family and friends this is not goodbye but rather “See you on the other side.”
