Marilyn Gunnels, age 75 passed away July 30, 2016 after a brief illness. She was born January 17, 1941 in Norman, Oklahoma to parents Stephen and Margaret Payden Tokoly, who preceded her in death. She attended Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas where she met the love of her life Eddie Gunnels. She was his greatest supporter, helpmate and soulmate for 58 years as they traveled from Dallas to El Paso to Corpus Christi to LaPlace, Louisana and finally settling in Whitehouse, where they have lived for the last 18 years.
She was a homemaker who enjoyed crafting, reading and spending time with her friends from the Tyler Modelers Club that she and Eddie have been part of for many years. She was a quiet and kind lady loved by many. Her greatest joy, however, came from being a mom to their son, Alan, who fondly remembers learning to cook from her and being a Gammy to her beloved grandchildren Seth and Morgan, whom she loved playing all kinds of card and board games each and every time they were together, sometimes into the wee hours of the night.
She was a Christian and a member of Green Acres Baptist Church.
She leaves behind her husband Eddie Gunnels, Whitehouse, son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Gail Gunnels; grandchildren, Seth and Morgan Gunnels of LaPlace, Louisana; brother, Steve Tokoly and wife Linda of Lake Highlands; numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 4, 2016 in the chapel of Lloyd James Funeral Home with Minister Tim Roberts officiating. Burial will be in Cathedral In The Pines in Tyler under the direction of Lloyd James Funeral Home.
