Early on, Martha began working in cosmetics at the drugstore in downtown Kilgore where she met her future husband, Van Fambrough. They married on May 14, 1949 in Kilgore, TX.
After having two children, Cecil and Donna, she and Van moved to Tyler, TX where they immediately joined Calvary Baptist Church. Martha was in the choir from the beginning, singing solos and teaching children’s choir. The joy of her life was raising her children.
In 1963 she began working at Mayer & Schmidt (later became Dillard’s) in the cosmetic department where she worked for 42 years. In 1978 her career as “Meme”, a doting grandmother began. Five grandchildren became the light of her life. She cooked lunch for all her family every Sunday and Wednesday. That was her love language. Later, 10 great grandchildren were added to her life. They were her delight.
She is preceded in death by Van Fambrough, her husband of 49 years. She is survived by Cecil and Paula Fambrough of Tyler and Huntersville N. Carolina and Jerry and Donna Calaway of Whitehouse, TX.
