

Mickey was born in Ben Wheeler on February 19, 1932. She graduated from Martins Mill High School in 1949, where she excelled at women's basketball, and was salutatorian of her graduating class. Immediately following high school, she moved to Tyler and continued on with her education to receive a secretarial degree from Tyler Commercial College. Over the next several decades she made a name for herself in the Tyler Chapter of the Legal Secretaries Association and was named "Secretary of the Year" in 1958 and "Legal Secretary of the Year" in 1980. She worked for several different law firms in Tyler over the course of her career, including Pollard, Lawrence & Reeves; Ramey, Calhoun, Brelsford & Hull; Pollard, Reeves & Boulter; Reeves & Reeves; Lawrence & Lawrence; Goodwin & Jarrel and Saunders, Caldwell, Schmidt & Echols before finally ending up at the Twelfth Court of Appeals where she retired from in 1992.
She moved to Pasadena following retirement to be near her only daughter and granddaughter and became very active in the First Methodist Church of Pasadena where she was the chairman of the Care Team Ministry for many years. Mickey was an accomplished seamstress and made beautiful clothing and crafts with a particular fondness for creating artistic fabric covered photo albums. A sweet and loving soul, she will be missed greatly by all who knew her.
Mickey was married to Malcolm R. Buie for 15 years until his death in 1975. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Parker Mayne and Lois Mayne Stephens; and three sisters, Hazel Wimpey, Violet Wilkerson and Mary Olson.
Left to cherish her memory are her sister, Peggy Gipson, of Van; daughter, Laurel Buie Stout and son-in-law John Stout, of Taylor Lake Village; granddaughter, Monica Myers and her husband Stephen Myers and unborn great-grandson, John Norman Myers, who is due in January, all of Houston. Mickey is also survived by her 20-year old cat, Duchess, who now resides with Laurel.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Lloyd James Funeral Home in Tyler with the Rev. Sherman Mayfield officiating. Visitation will be prior to the services on Saturday from noon to 2 p.m. at Lloyd James Funeral Home. Interment will follow in New Harmony Cemetery immediately after the services.
Serving as pallbearers are Charles Dark, Stephen Myers, Kevin Olson, Chris Reynolds, John Stout and Matthew Wilkerson. Honorary pallbearer is Jimmy Wilkerson.
A memorial service will be held in Pasadena at First United Methodist Church, 1062 Fairmont Parkway, on Thursday, Oct. 30, 2014, at 5:30 p.m. with the Revs. Emily Everett and John Stephenson officiating. A reception following the service will be held in the fellowship hall.
