

Services for Ovalee Bowers, 92, of Tyler are scheduled for 2:00 pm, Friday, April 1, 2016, at Lloyd James Funeral Home with Rev. Scott Wiley officiating. Private burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 pm on Thursday.
Mrs. Bowers passed away on Sunday, March 27, 2016 in Tyler.
Ovalee was born on July 8, 1923, in Ft. Worth to the late Carl and Myrtle Trott Killman. She was a long-time member of First Baptist Church Tyler where she served in many capacities, including music secretary.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, and her husband, Mervin Bowers.
She is survived by her daughters, Carla Jo Bishop of Garland and Rebecca Berry of Tyler; sons, Robert Bowers of Lindale and Lt. Colonel William Bowers of Houston; ten grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Ovalee was well-known for collecting and organizing recipes and sharing them with church and community members. Many of her recipes were featured in a food column for the local newspaper. She once remarked, “I don’t claim to be a good cook, but I sure have good recipes!”
The family wishes to thank the caregivers at Park Place Nursing Center for the wonderful service extended to Ovalee.
