Raymond was born to Mary Helen Adams Craft and Howard Lee Craft. He attended Union Grove High School and earned his diploma while serving in the U.S. Air Force from 1979 to 1984; an early reflection of the steady discipline and commitment that marked his life.
During his service in the U.S. Air Force (1979–1984), Raymond received awards including a USAF certificate of appointment, Sergeant Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, the Good Conduct medal, Small Arm Expert Markmanship, training ribbons, the National Defense Service medal, and an award for superior performance from Lt. Commander James Brown. He later served in the United States Army from 1986 to 1991, earning the Good Conduct medal, Army Service ribbon, Overseas Service ribbon, and Primary Leadership Development award.
Between his military service, he worked for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice from 1984 to 1986 and in 1991 he would begin work as a truck driver until his retirement in 2012.
Beyond his work and service, Raymond valued time spent with family and friends. He found joy and freedom riding his Harley motorcycles, and he was an avid hunter with a passion for archery. He also expressed himself through writing poetry and creating art.
Raymond is survived by his sons, Justin and Sean Craft of Starkville, Mississippi; his mother, Mary Helen Craft of Winona, Texas; his sister, Cindy (Paul) Kouma of Longview, Texas; his brother, Craig Craft of Winona, Texas; his nephews Josh Kouma, Patrick Kouma, Colton Craft and Dylan Craft; and aunts and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Howard Lee Craft; grandparents Leroy and Mamie (Harris) Craft and Jerry and Loma (Lockridge) Adams; and numerous aunts, uncles, and friends.
Visitation will be held at Lloyd James Funeral Home, 1011 East First Street in Tyler, on September 3, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm. A Funeral Service will follow beginning at 1:00 pm.
Raymond will be laid to rest at Bascom Cemetery in Smith County.
