

Rufus Charles Waters, age 80, of Tyler, passed away in the early morning hours of Friday, December 27, 2013 at his home. Rufus was born in Lindale, Texas on February 2, 1933 to the late Charlie W and Mary Bell Adams Waters. After high school, Rufus joined the United States Army and served during the Korean Conflict. He retired from Kelly Springfield after 35 dedicated years of service. Rufus was a deacon at Rise Again Baptist Church where he loved to sing and play his guitar. He had a servant’s heart, a gentle spirit, and soft spot for all kids, but especially his children and grandchildren. In his free time, Rufus enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. Rufus was a beloved husband, father, Pepaw, and friend who will be missed by all who knew him.
Rufus is survived by his wife, Lillian Waters; one daughter, Debbie Cash, and husband Clyde, of Chapel Hill; one son, Charles Waters, and wife Shane, of Brownsboro; one sister, Joyce L. Hewitt of Granbury; 4 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and by a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and very special friends.
He was also preceded in death by two wives, Lucille Waters and Opal Waters; one daughter, Patricia Waters; and by 5 siblings.
Services for Rufus Waters will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, December 30, 2013 at Lloyd James Funeral Home with Pastor Walter Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Damascus Cemetery in Lindale. Visitation will be held from 3 – 5 P. M., Sunday afternoon at the funeral home.
