Sue met the love of her life, Clarence Putz, on a blind date. The two quickly fell in love, with Clarence driving every weekend from the Naval Station in Corpus Christi to see her. Sue and Clarence married on December 23, 1945 and were happily married for 66 years. To know Sue and Clarence was to love them. They planted their roots in Tyler, Texas, where they became members of Trinity Baptist Church. They also became active bowlers, winning many competitions. Sue enjoyed the outdoors, where she loved spending most of her time maintaining her yard and beautiful flowerbeds. She was talented in craftwork, knitting, and crocheting, and was an amazing cook. But Sue was perhaps best known for her passion for Mary Kay cosmetics. She was an accomplished saleswoman, winning many awards and selling the brand for over fifty years.
Since Sue and Clarence didn't have children of their own, they adopted nieces and nephews and their long-time neighbors, Charles and Brenda Green, their three daughters, Shelba Loudamy, Sharon House, and Shanon Green, and later Sharon's two sons, Christopher and Jonathan House, as part of their family. Sue was an unexpected gift to the Green family. The Greens said everything seemed brighter when she was around. Sue was a strong, yet kind and loving woman who touched the lives of all who knew her.
Sue is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Clarence, four brothers, and three sisters. She is survived by her sister, Shirley Holder, of Huntsville, Alabama, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Sue's family expresses their sincere gratitude to Visiting Angels, Meadow Lake Senior Living, Traditions Health Hospice, and Linda Jiles, all of whom cared for her so well in the final years of her life.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for memorial donations to either the East Texas Crisis Center, P.O. Box 7060, Tyler, TX 75711 or Texas Children's Hospital, 6621 Fannin Street, Houston, TX 77030.
Funeral services for Sue Putz will be held on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at 11:30am at Lloyd James Funeral Home Chapel, 1101 E. 1st Street, Tyler, Texas. Family and friends will meet beforehand at 11am for a time of visitation.
