Services for William Harold “Bill” Womack, 89, of Tyler are scheduled for 10:00 A.M., Monday, October 25, 2010 at Southern Oaks Baptist Church with Larry Craig officiating. Burial will be at 2:00 P.M. at Resthaven Memorial Park in Jacksonville under the direction of Lloyd James Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 3-5:00 P.M., Sunday at the funeral home.
Mr. Womack passed away on Wednesday, October 20, 2010 in Tyler.
He was born on July 27, 1921 in Cash Springs, Arkansas to the late Frank Franklin and Oma Jordan Womack. He served in the U. S. Navy on the USS Cincinnati in WW II and was discharged due to the loss of his bother Jay. He attended Little Rock Junior College and Arkansas State Teachers College as well as The University of Washington in Seattle and Mammoth College in Illinois. He fought in WW 2 and the Korean War in 1949 while in the Navy Reserves. In 1948 he had numerous political aspirations and was elected County Treasurer in Faulkner County, Arkansas. In 1954 he joined the Air Force and later retired. During his military career he received many awards and medals. He was a member of Southern Oaks Baptist Church. He was a very avid sports fan, family man as well as a strong political supporter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, oldest brother, Clete Andrews Womack; brothers, Floyd Monroe Womack, Gold Berdell ‘Dale’ Womack, Buell Columbus Womack
and Gerrell Dean ‘Jay’ Womack; sisters, Pearl Womack and Ivon Womack Martin and a son, Randy Brown.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis ‘Kitty” Womack of Tyler; children, Debra Johnson, Donna Womack, Karla Langhorn and Monica Grossman; grandchildren, Jamie Beasley, Kimberly Haley, Catherine Tully, Blake Mohr, Timothy Langhorn, Christianne Leach, Marin Portacci, Shawn Grossman and Mary Catherine Chesley; great grandchildren, Killian Tully, Kendall Haley, Sean Patrick Tully, Camryn Haley, Lillianna Langhorn, Faith Langhorn, Tyson Langhorn, Isiah Mohr, Elijah Mohr and Jeremiah Mohr.
Pallbearers are Brad Harvey, Mike Harvey, Steve Harvey, Sean Tully, Sean Haley and Randy Treadwell.
