Antonio Omar Maldonado, 75, of Ridgefield, NJ, and formerly of North Bergen, NJ, passed away on Monday, September 5, 2023. Ever the fighter, he battled cancer with determination and bravery for several months. Sadly, the progression was inevitable and he peacefully closed his eyes for the last time in the early morning hours of what would have been his 36th wedding anniversary.
He was born in San Juan, Argentina on December 23, 1947. Wanting to see the world, he worked on merchant ships for many years, expanding his life experiences and creating memories that years later served as entertaining anecdotes he regaled friends and family with at his famous and lavish “asados.”
His travels brought him to the United States where he settled in New Jersey. His initiative and will to succeed led him to start several businesses, including a mechanic shop and a wine importing business that specialized in the wines of Argentina and other Latin American countries.
He is predeceased by his parents Jose Antonio Maldonado and Maria Amelia Valdeon. He is survived by his wife, Edania Rondon Maldonado, and their two children, a son and daughter, Edania Malvy Maldonado. Also surviving him are his uncle, Pedro Valdeon; brothers Jose Luis Maldonado and Pedro Maldonado; his sister, Maria Amelia Maldonado; cousins Gregorio Maldonado (and his wife, Ana), Gladys Rodriguez, Griselda Valdeon, Sergio Valdeon, Guillermo Valdeon, Pedro Valdeon and Tita Sanchez; his nieces and nephews Nuria, Isela, Fernando, Pedro and Omar in Argentina and Ariana, Ylia and Hunter in the United States; his sisters-in-law Nayda Rondon and Moyra Thumann, and their husbands, Felix Aguero and Ian Thumann, respectively.
Omar’s Life Celebration will include visiting service on Sunday, September 10, 4-8pm at the Leber Funeral Home, 2000 Kennedy Boulevard, Union City, NJ. A funeral prayer service will be offered on Monday, September 11, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, located at 615 8th Street, Union City, NJ.
