Caroline Edna Whitton was born January 25, 1920 to Henrietta & Charles Lacy in Connecticut. She was the oldest of six children, Charles, Dolores, Charlotte, Elmer & Ellen. The family moved to Union City where she grew up. She married Albert Clinton Whitton from Vermont and they resided in Union City for several years. They had two children, Albert, Jr. & Carolyn. They purchased a house in Weehawken in 1943, where Caroline lived out the rest of her life until 94 years of age. Caroline was very active in the First Reformed Church, The Women's Club of Weehawken, PTA, & the Red Cross. She was a very family orientated person always helping her siblings & parents in any way possible. She quit school at age 16 so she could work & help the family. Once she & Albert purchased their home she entertained her family for Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years Eve, birthdays etc. She was always happiest helping others.
Albert passed away November 14, 1970. This was a very hard time for Caroline becoming a widow at age 50. She was able to go back to work FT at Hudson United Bank where she worked many years.
Once she had her three grandsons, Albert , III, James & Michael she decided she wanted to retire to spend more time with them. The next many years were spent at many sports events, birthday parties, etc & she loved every minute of spending time with the boys. She was very happy to see Michael & James get married. Now that they were all grown up, she had the pleasure of becoming a great grandma (Nana) to Keara & Lily.
In her later years she moved to the Senior housing apartment, still in Weehawken. She loved her home there and had many friends in the building. She loved attending the Senior parties, bus trips etc. In her final two years she wasn't able to stay active but continued to love her home & her friends and family who visited her there.
Caroline was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, and friend. She is missed by many but especially me, her daughter and her grandsons.
RIP Mom.
