Flavio J. Grasso, 99, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2020. Fliv spent most of his long, full life in Union City. He was born on January 1st, 1921 in Nizza Monferato, Italy to Peter and Josephine Grasso. He was an Emerson High School graduate, and later graduated from Cornell University with a degree in chemistry. He spent most of his professional career with 3M in Port Newark, and retired from 3M as Plant Manager.
Fliv was predeceased by his loving wife, Flora May, with whom he is now reunited. He is survived by his daughter, Teresa, of Union City, his daughter, Jean Naugle and her husband Jim of Scotch Plains, and his son John Peter and his wife Yvette of Chester, NY. He was Grandpa to Joanna, Andrew and Rachel Naugle, Pop to Faithe, Joseph, Louis and Vincent Grasso, and Big Pop to Marcus and Mia Grasso. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins around the US and Italy.
Fliv was an active member of Saints Joseph and Michael Church in Union City. He had served as a Eucharistic Minister, on the Parish Council, and he ran Thursday Night Bingo at Saint Michael’s for decades. Fliv and Flora were also active in sports programs in support of their children.
Fliv enjoyed reading good mysteries, watching classic films and sports, gardening, jigsaw puzzles, and daily crossword puzzles. He never missed Jeopardy! His family cherishes memories with him and Mom on family trips to Florida and summers spent at the Jersey Shore.
