Gilbert Avila

Gilbert Avila, 89, of Union City, NJ, passed away on Wednesday, March 10, 2021, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Vieques, Puerto Rico, on March 16, 1931, and moved to New York during his teenage years. Eventually, making Union City his permanent residence for close to sixty years. Along with his wife, Gladys, they made this a beautiful home for their children.

Survivors include his loving children, Albert and his spouse, Mabel; Charles and his spouse, Karen; Wendy and her spouse, Juan; Felipe and his spouse, Daisy. Adoring grandchildren, Kobe, Jocelyn, Valentina, Duvan, Miah, Lernice, Heidy, and Ruben. As well as his cherished sister Margie Avila, and his niece Frances Dakto.

Gilbert's Life Celebration will include visiting on Sunday, March 14, from 2-7 PM at the Leber Funeral Home, 2000 Kennedy Blvd, Union City, NJ. A funeral prayer service will be offered on Monday, March 15, beginning at 10:00 AM at the funeral home. Friends and family may begin gathering at 9:30 Monday morning before services. Gilbert will be laid to rest at St. Raymond's Old Cemetery, 2600 Lafayette Ave, Bronx, NY, 10465.
