 have known Giovanni for more than 47 years living together and I can say he was a good man and friend to me. Giovanni taught me how to drive his Fiat 850 with manual transmission when we visited Vittoria during Easter 1970. When we visited Vittoria, Giovanni treated us to the best restaurants and tourist attractions in Sicily. As a 16 year old, I could not ask for a better stepfather for me and my brothers. But most importantly he was a perfect husband and match for my mother.
Giovanni was the ideal role model. He thought us that you should do whatever you can to help a friend. Giovanni easily learned how to be a good handy man, painter, and all overall jack-of-all-trades.
Giovanni never really got mad and on occasion when he did, he did not stay mad for more and a few hours. During the most recent years, Giovanni kept his sense of humor in spite of his deteriorating health. It is hard for me to comprehend that Gio has passed away. I comfort myself knowing that God called him home and he is doing God’s work in Heaven. I am sure we will all see him again some day. In the mean time Barbara and I and (his grand daughters Amanda Calderaro Doyle-Dark and Emily) and my Mom and brothers and all his friends and relatives will keep happy memories of him alive. “Giovanni – Thanks for all the wonderful memories” - Vinny
