
Marta Porta (nee: Bellifemine), 99, of Union City, passed away on Thursday, April 23, 2020. She was born on June 3, 1920 in Molfetta, Italy where she met and married the love of her life, Vincenzo. Together, they raised three children and moved to the United States in 1955. They first resided in Hoboken and then Union City. As a life-long seamstress, Marta worked in a coat factory and excelled at making fashionable clothing, especially for her children. Marta had a cheerful, outgoing personality and loved to laugh. She adored her close knit family. She was a strong and faithful friend, who loved to socialize and regularly attend the Saturday night church mass followed by the Societa-Unita club. Marta had a phrase for everything, especially “Don’t worry, God will provide.”
She is predeceased by her husband of 78 years, Vincenzo Porta, and by her four brothers and one sister, and survived by one brother. She is also survived by her daughter, Rose Lucignani and her husband Fausto, daughter, Jacqueline Cormio and her late husband Michele, and by her son, Salvatore Porta and his wife Angela. She was the loving grandmother of Sandra Della Fera and her husband David, Patrick Lucignani and his wife Meghan, Cristina Fowler and her husband Patrick, Robert Cormio and his wife Melissa, Vincent Porta, Jacqueline Patino and her husband Daniel, and Nicholas Porta, as well as 11 great grandchildren.
Due to current state regulations, a private family funeral service will be held on Friday, May 1, 2020 at Leber Funeral Home.
