Richard had a successful career as an advertising photographer working for ad agencies and large companies. He loved his job, but the happiest time in his life was when we moved to a small village in France where we were welcomed into the community, and into the lives of the people. Everyone loved Richard so much they voted him president of the village art society. He made the annual fête so popular that villages near us wanted to be a part of it. There were educational exhibits on living a life on how to save the environment, tours of the beautiful fabric factory, dinner, dancing, fireworks and 3 days of great fun. Later Richard had the first Christmas tree erected in the town square for everyone to decorate. We had a party and bonfire every year. He researched the history of the village, collected enough items that he could put together a museum. He worked tirelessly for the village, and they have carried on with all the ideas he contributed. When we had to leave it was the heartbreaking.
Richard was always generous with his time and money. He worked with many organizations in his hometown, Dallas. He gave money to benefit wildlife for as long as he could. When Richard had a stroke in 2016 he forgot all the difficult things that he had to endure. His memory was not good after the stroke, however he remembered all the people he loved and our happy times together in France. It is my wish that this Coronavirus that took his life will make us all value what is truly important in this world before it is too late.
