Barbara Ann Slimp was known as a rather private person. However, to those who knew her best, she will be remembered as an exceptional person who was devoted to her late husband, loved her family and fur babies, and was often generous to a fault...especially to Amazon.
She became the daughter of Cecil Denton, Sr. and Daisy Heilman Denton from Johnson City, Tennessee on April 29, 1938.
Barbara was raised with three siblings. She is survived by one sister, Elizabeth “Betty” Jones and was preceded in death by two brothers, Cecil Denton, Jr. and Eugene Denton.
On September 17, 1956 Barbara exchanged wedding vows with Ray E. Slimp. They were married for over 50 years.
After being an Army wife for 26 years, Barbara became a licensed Real Estate Agent and along with her husband, was a business owner of Baron Company Realtors in San Antonio, TX for many years.
Barbara was blessed with two children. Her son, Steven Ray Slimp, who preceded her in death, and Melissa (Slimp) Caruthers. Another blessing for Barbara was the gift of three grandchildren, Tiffany (Caruthers) Phelps, Stephanie (Caruthers) Huerta, and John Caruthers. "GG" also had four great grandchildren: Bryson Ray and Brooklyn Kelly Phelps and Braelynn Denton and Brielle Courtney Huerta. She was very proud of all of them, including her son-in-law, Gregg Caruthers, Tiffany's late husband, Courtney Phelps and Stephanie's husband, Brandon Huerta.
Barbara enjoyed her leisure time sipping a good red wine and playing with and caring for her many puppies over the years. She was a lover of animals and cherished her pets. Even pretending to like her daughter's cat. One of her favorites, Jasmine, a rescue Bishon Frise mix, is mourning her loss.
When Barbara’s retirement finally arrived in 2003, it was well deserved. Her and her husband, Ray, enjoyed a few years of leisure until his passing in 2011. Even then she continued to maintain their family home in Converse. However, eight short months ago, her life involved relocating to New Braunfels. She found renewed pleasure decorating her "cozy" apartment attached to her daughter's home. Amazon was back in business!
Barbara passed away on July 14, 2019 at Christus Santa Rosa Hospital-New Braunfels from acute renal failure while fighting a brave battle against melanoma cancer. She was laid to rest in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
Simply stated, Barbara was a good and kind person. An individual who will for all time be remembered by her family and friends as caring and giving. We take much comfort in knowing that she is now reunited with her husband and son and is now cancer and pain free and in the arms of our Heavenly Father.
