

Alfred joined the US Army in 1966 as a flight engineer. He retired from the military after serving 20 years. After retirement he worked civil service at Kelly Air Force Base and Randolph Air Force Base until his second retirement. Alfred also worked on the City of Live Oak Planning and Zoning Commission.
Alfred attended T. L. Pink High School until the 11th grade until schools were consolidated, which resulted in him graduating from E.A. Greer High School in 1965. He attended St. Phillips and graduated with an Associate Degree in computer science. He was a member of the T. L. Pink Alumni and was a generous donor to their scholarship fund. Alfred was an active member of Maranatha Bible Church for over 30 years where he served in the Finance ministry, the Family Ministry, the Adult Choir and the Greeters Ministry.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Dennis Scott and Ida Phoenix; sisters, Betty Phoenix, Patricia Guillory and Alzena Washington; his brothers, Francis Scott and Randolph Scott. He is also preceded in death by his grandmother, Magnolia Phoenix who raised him due to the untimely death of his mother when he was 1 year old.
He is survived by wife of 56 years, Janice Phoenix; 2 sons, Terry Lee Phoenix (Schannon) and Alfred Lee Phoenix, Jr. (Andrea); daughter, Cheryl Phoenix Scott; 6 brothers, Robert Edward (Linda), Eugene Scott (Mary Belle), Terry Gordon (Willie Mae), Jerome Scott (Carol), Clarence Scott (Jeannine), Kenneth Landow (Deon); 4 sisters, Shirley Lewis (James), Betty Colvin (Earl), Selena Robbins, Rita Hardy (Greg);
10 grandchildren, Derek Phoenix, Robert Scott, III, Maliq Phoenix, Olivia Barber (Drew), Jordan Phoenix, Xavier Phoenix, Terri Phoenix, Victoria Scott, Isaiah Phoenix, Ayden Phoenix; a host of nieces and nephews, including niece, Carol Evans (Gary) and nephew Jeffery Phoenix, and his uncle Jesse Phoenix.

A visitation for Alfred will be held Wednesday, September 27, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Colonial Funeral Home, 625 Kitty Hawk Road, Universal City, TX 78148. Funeral service will be held Thursday, September 28, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM at Maranatha Bible Church, 7855 TX 1604 Loop, Converse, TX 78109. A committal service with Military Honors will follow from 1:45 PM to 2:15 PM at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd., San Antonio, TX 78209.
