Although her family already misses the loving light she provided, they know she is whole again and is rejoicing with her son, Steve. Betty was a devoted woman of Faith, loving wife to Ruben Hernandez, mother to three children, grandmother of seven, and great grandmother to five.
Betty was born on August 19,1934 in Falfurrias, Texas. She was the oldest of four daughters born to parents Frances Guerra and Manuel Morales. Following her graduation from Falfurrias High School, Betty attended Durham Business College in Corpus Christi, Texas. After she met the love of her life, Ruben Hernandez, she moved to San Antonio, to pursue better employment opportunities. Following a two year courtship they married on March 16, 1957 and began their life long adventures. Ruben’s Air Force assignments took them to places such as England, Panama, and Texas. During this time, they began their family of three children, Stephen Rene, Cynthia Louise, and Katherine Marie. Betty decided early on to remain at home where she provided a loving and nurturing environment.
Betty enjoyed many activities such as bowling, singing in her church choir, playing coed softball, making many beautiful ceramic pieces of art, traveling, tending to her plants, and attending Spurs games. But her favorite place was with her grandchildren and cheering them on as they participated in many team sports.
Betty is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Ruben Hernandez, and their children, Cindy (David Zammiello) and Kathi (John Dishong); daughter-in-law Belinda Rodarte-Hernandez. She has seven grandchildren; Ashley (Kamrun Foster), DeAnna (Jason Nave), Joey Zammiello, Shelby (Colby Spears), Lisa Zammiello, Alex Dishong, and Gabby Hernandez (Sebastian Perez). Her five great grandchildren are Aubrey and Emerson Nave, Stella Hernandez-Perez, Amari Foster and Shiloh Spears. Betty is also survived by two sisters, Eloisa Garcia and Albessa Johnson and numerous nieces, nephews and loved ones. Those greeting Betty in Heaven are her son, Stephen Rene Hernandez, parents, Manuel and Frances Morales, sister, Noemi Navarro, and granddaughter, Dannielle Zammiello.
Betty’s legacy of faith, love and laughter will live on in the hearts of those she touched. We know she is with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and rejoice in her salvation and new eternal life.
