

Billie H. Byrd passed away on November 30, 2013 after a short illness. Billie was the beloved wife of 70 years to William “Bill” R. Byrd, cherished mother of Michael Clark Byrd and wife Lynne of Sunrise Beach, Texas, Deborah Byrd Johnson and husband Larry of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Susan R. Byrd of Barnard, Vermont, and loving grandmother of David Clark Byrd and wife Kathleen of Round Rock, Texas, Daniel Peter Byrd and wife Carolyn Byrd of Houston, Texas, Kimberly M. Jones and husband Doyle of Moore, Oklahoma, Kelly Lee Kern of Nashville, Tennessee, Christopher Johnson and wife Catherine of Oklahoma City, OK. Devoted great grandmother of Kristin Byrd of Round Rock, Texas, Katie and Keely Jones of Moore, Oklahoma, and Rex, Sterling and Remy Kern of Nashville, Tennessee, Conor Johnson of Oklahoma City, OK. Billie is also survived by her sister in law Patsy Byrd Logan and husband Jack of Houston, Texas, nephew Lyle Crawford of Pace, FL, and many nieces and nephews.
Billie was born in Richland, Texas on October 29, 1924. She was the youngest daughter of the late August B. “Slim” Johnston and the late Fanny Adcock Johnston. Billie grew up in Oklahoma, attending Seminole High School, and was the devoted sister to the late Bruce Johnston Crawford and the late Bernice Johnston Gross. Billie met the love of her life, Bill, at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas where she and Bill were later married (1943) and her first two children were born. After the life of an Air Force wife, and several years each in Austin and Oklahoma City, Billie moved back to San Antonio with Bill in 1979 where they lived in Windcrest before moving to the Army Residence Community in 1999.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, December 5, 2013 from 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. at Colonial Funeral Home. Graveside service will be held on Friday, December 6, 2013 at 10:45 A.M. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
