CSM – Ret. Bobbie Hall was born May 2, 1936 in Hazard, Kentucky and died March 14, 2024. Prior to being born, his father died of black lung from work in the local coal mine. His mother, having to provide for five children, left Bobbie quite often to his own devices. He attended Hazard public schools until the sixth grade. He then worked in the coal mine himself, later parking cars. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed at Lajes Field in Terceira, Azores.
In the Azores he met Karla, the love of his life. Bobbie and Karla recently celebrated sixty-six years of marriage. They were stationed at Fort Belvoir, Virginia; Fort Riley, Kansas; Fort Eustace, Virginia; West Point, New York; Taipei, Taiwan; and finally, at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, where he retired.
In 1988, he was recalled to active service for Desert Storm. He also served as a captain in the Texas National Guard, as well as a deputy constable for Bexar County Justice Precinct No. 2
In civilian life he was employed by the United States Postal Service and later self-employed as the owner of Bob Hall Motors. His interests include political discussion, crossword puzzles, and Hazard history.
A committal service with military honors for Bobbie will be held Tuesday, April 2, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 11:20 AM at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209.
