Carol Ann Medeiros

Carol Ann Medeiros, age 78, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2026, with her daughters by her side. She is once again united with her husband, John Medeiros, who passed away seventeen years prior in 2009.

Carol grew up in Park Ridge, Illinois with her parents Bill and Dolly Silberman and her brother Bill.

In the 1980s, Carol married John and soon after they moved from Illinois to Texas. Carol always had an eye for sewing and crafting, from making her girls matching clothes or a Halloween costume when they were younger or an angel for a loose tooth. After settling in Texas, Carol took her love for sewing and crafting and turned it into a business, Materialism. She started by selling her creations at local craft fairs- a full-time passion that John proudly supported right by her side. One of her best creations were her handmade quilts. Over time, she shared her love of quilting and started teaching others how to quilt. Many of Carol's students became lifelong friends. She also designed and crafted countless beautiful pieces of her own, including quilts, pillows, dolls, wall hangings, and personalized gifts- like firefighter and basketball-themed pillowcases for her grandson, Jourden and a nutcracker wall hanging for Kym. With John always there to help, Carol entered her work into numerous craft shows, frequently winning ribbons. Her daughters, Kym and Heather, also assisted with the shows over the years, though both happily left the actual quilting to Carol. Today, many of her pieces hang in her children's homes, and each Christmas, even more special creations are brought out to share with holiday visitors.

Although Carol stopped teaching, her passion for crafting never waned. She found a wonderful community in a weekly quilting "Bee." Every Wednesday, the group would gather to work on their latest projects, and Carol always spoke fondly of how special these ladies were to her.

Carol and John loved playing games, a hobby that brought some of their closest friends into their lives. After John passed away, Carol kept that vibrant social connection alive by playing Mahjong and Bunco, always eagerly anticipating her game nights. Carol introduced her love of games to her grandson, Jourden. Carol and Jourden would often be together playing a of Farkle and later adding Uno to the family get togethers. Carol loved her grandson and they were very close. They shared daily phone calls and text and kept in touch even after the family moved away from San Antonio.

Carol took great pride in creating a welcoming home where everyone could gather for the holidays. Christmas was her favorite. Every Christmas the house was decorated and music would be playing, Neil Diamond or Johnny Mathis holiday album. Homemade lasagna and fresh baked cookies. Everyone was invited. What started as a one time gathering became a holiday tradition by inviting the recruits from the local Army or Air Force base to join us for dinner when they couldn't travel home for the holidays. Refusing to host just one or two, the table was filled with recruits and family all filling the room with laughter and stories of family traditions. Carol always ensured everyone felt like part of the family.

Carol had a profound soft spot for animals, rescuing more than 20 cats over her lifetime. She made sure her outdoor kitties were always fed and safe from he changing weather, while her indoor cats where thoroughly spoiled and lived their absolute best lives. Her compassion extended deep into the community as an active supporter of the Humane Society of San Antonio, where she frequently donated stacks of blankets and food. One of Carol’s most cherished creations was a special quilt dedicated to her rescued kitties; as each beloved kitty passed away, she lovingly added a stitched halo over their picture in remembrance.

Carol’s legacy lives on in the vibrant community of friends she cherished, the countless animals she saved, and the cozy homes of the family she loved so deeply. Her memory will be warmly felt every Wednesday, at every holiday table, and each Christmas when her beautiful, hand-stitched creations are brought out to be shared. Though she has left us, the warmth of her generous spirit, the laughter of her holiday gatherings, and the love she quilted into every corner of her life will remain with us forever.

Carol is preceded in death by her husband, John Medeiros, parents, William and Evelyn “Dolly” Silberman.

Carol is survived by Kimberly Sanders (daughter) and husband, Jeff; Heather Breig (daughter) and husband Paul. Grandson Jourden Breig. William Silberman Jr (brother) and spouse Janis and daughter SarahFu.
