Carolyn Annie Sue Fannin was born on August 31, 1938 to Ernest and Lexie Pyle in a log cabin at Pumpkin Center in Columbia County, Arkansas. She was the third child of three girls and three boys. Her dad built that log cabin for $5.00, a bushel of corn and with nails he removed from an old schoolhouse. Her husband, Charles (Grandpa), said that she lived so far back in the sticks that they had to pump sunshine in.
Carolyn (Grandma) attended a one-room school in Spotsville (don’t try to locate, it can’t be found). While in second grade, her family moved to Magnolia, Arkansas where they lived in a remodeled honky-tonk. It had three rooms and an outhouse; no indoor plumbing until 1951 when Carolyn was 13.
She graduated from Magnolia High School Summa Cum Laude and then completed her undergraduate and graduate degrees at Southern State College. She went on to teach math, primarily algebra, until her retirement.
Carolyn and Charles married in 1962 after a whirlwind three-month courtship, mostly at church as Charles was the pastor. They went on to pour their lives into the Bride of Christ preaching, teaching, ministering and organizing. They were blessed with two daughters, Lisa Denise Lindow and Laurie DeAnn Flowers, both of whom followed in their mother’s footsteps, marrying pastors and ministering at their husbands’ sides.
Without a doubt, the greatest joy of Carolyn’s life, apart from Jesus, was her family. Two daughters, two sons-in-law, David Lindow and Kevin Flowers, six grandchildren; Kalli Herrera and husband Gavin; MiKayla Lindow and fiancé Jacob Lockard; Allie, Kaleb, Olivia and Noah Flowers; and one great grandson, Oaklee Owen James Herrera. Her greatest desire was to know that all of them would accept Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior and walk with Him all the days of their lives.
Carolyn is preceded in death by her parents, half-sister, Adell Newman, and brother, Jerry Pyle. She leaves behind for a little while her sister Maxine Porterfield and brothers, David Pyle and wife Esther, and Ernie Pyle and wife Donna.
Carolyn has left a legacy of loving, giving, serving and exemplifying the virtues of Jesus. Her commentaries on Genesis, Romans, Revelation, and the work From Eternity Past to Eternity Future are cherished labors of love and the evidence of her love of the Bible. She was currently working on Isaiah, having completed chapters one through thirty-five.
