Carolyn “Maw Maw” Moon, 82, of Universal City, Texas, was called home to be with the Lord on October 4, 2026, passing peacefully in the comfort of her home, surrounded by the family she loved so dearly.
Carolyn was born on May 20, 1944, to Cecilia and George Rink in Fredericksburg, Tx. She attended St. Mary’s Catholic School, where she had fond memories of performing as a cheerleader and majorette, graduating in 1962. After college, she worked at Kemper Insurance, covering workman’s comp for refineries in Beaumont and SE Texas. She then began selling fire safety equipment to refineries throughout Texas and Louisiana, which led her to become a qualified instructor at the Texas A&M Fire Training Academy. In 1985, she moved to San Antonio, where she bought Universal City Fitness with her husband Tommy.
To know Carolyn was to witness a life lived without fear, hesitation, or apology. She never turned down an adventure. Whether it meant getting on stage with Jake Owen or running onto the field with her beloved Texas A&M Aggies, Carolyn created joy wherever she went and made life unforgettable for everyone around her.
Carolyn’s faith was an integral part of who she was. She brought people closer to Jesus not only through what she said, but through the way she lived and loved others. She showed people what it looked like to live in God’s presence through her generosity, hospitality, compassion, and service. She was a grandmother not only by blood, but by love, opening her heart to many who lovingly called her Maw Maw.
Carolyn is preceded in death by her parents, Cecilia and George Rink; her father-in-law, Jerry and mother-in-law, Camilla; and her brother-in-law, Jerry Jr.
To know Carolyn Moon was a privilege, and to be loved by her was one of life’s greatest blessings. She was a wife, sister, aunt, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, hero, and best friend.
She is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Tommy; her brother, Don, and sister-in-law, Linda Gay; her three children, Keith (Denise), Brian (Ali), and Kelley; her seven grandchildren, Alyssa (Dillon), Bayli (Rom), Logan (Madison), Ethan (fiancé, Paiton), Maximus, Carol Ann (Panayiotis), and Emily; and her beloved great-grandchild, Leigh.
Carolyn also leaves behind her mother-in-law, Judy; her sister-in-law, Pat; nieces Erica (Beau) and Michelle (Jeff); and grandnieces Reese and Charlotte. She also leaves behind the Burkhardt and Nelson families, who were among the many people fortunate enough to know her as family.
Carolyn often teased her family, “Y’all are going to miss me when I’m gone!” She was right in ways words cannot describe, but she would want her life celebrated with laughter, Beringer White Zinfandel, and a deep love for one another.
A viewing will be held in Carolyn’s honor at Colonial Funeral Home at 5 p.m. with a rosary to follow at 7 p.m., Thursday, October 29. Her memorial service will take place at Our Lady of Perpetual Help church on Friday, October 30, at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow the service at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cemetery. All who loved Carolyn are invited to join her family in celebrating her life and honoring the beautiful legacy of love she leaves behind.
