Visitation and Funeral Services will be Tuesday, January 25, 2022 at Woodlake Baptist Church, 6980 Woodlake Club Dr. San Antonio, TX. Visitation from 10:30 AM until the funeral service begins at 12:00 PM. Interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 1701 Austin Hwy, San Antonio.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 70 years, Claire Jean Perry; his daughter, Cindy Perry Gray; grandchildren, Chris Matlock, his wife, Jennifer, Jeannie Vasquez, her husband, Edward, Stephen Ray Hatchell his wife, Leila; Grandchildren, Jazmine Gray, Jayd Gray, Jule Gray and Justice Gray; as well as several great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Vernon and Nellie Perry; his brother, VA Perry; his sister, Barbara VanMeter, her husband Gene VanMeter, Sr.; daughters, Carolyn Perry Franken, Candice Perry; granddaughter, Ashlee Hatchell; and son-in-law, Gary Gray.
He was called to ministry after graduating from South Park High School. Following that calling, he pursued further education at East Texas Baptist University and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Over the years, he pastored many Baptist Churches all over the state of Texas, such as First Baptist Church of Lumberton, First Baptist Church of Bracketville, Phillips Memorial Baptist Church of Big Spring, Lacoste Baptist Church, and more recently Lovera Baptist Church of San Antonio.
He branched out into hospital chaplaincy, ministering children with CPS, San Antonio and Buckner Baptist Benevolence agency. He touched many lives through his ministry including recently multiple caregivers with Embrace Hospice and Visiting Angels. He will be missed, but we are grateful for God’s ultimate healing that ended his struggle!
