1937-2020
Catherine (Cathy) Cooper passed away on February 16, 2020 following complications from surgery. She was born on September 28, 1937 to Lillian Louise (Burton) Bynum and Harvey Wilson Bynum in Pleasant Hill, Louisiana. Catherine spent her younger years in living in Louisiana where she met her future husband Delbert (Del) Cooper who was a career Air Force officer. On February 24, 1956 Delbert and Catherine were married in Bossier City, Louisiana while he was stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base. They soon moved to Shreveport where they had two children, Debra and Delbert Jr. While in the Air Force they traveled and lived in numerous places around the world. During this time Catherine and Del enjoyed getting together with friends and playing Bridge.
Following her husband’s retirement from the military, they soon made their permanent residence in the San Antonio area. While her husband worked in Real Estate, Cathy decided to go to school and received her degree in Interior Design from Texas State University in the early 1980’s and went on to work at Diane Flack Interiors. After her husband’s death on October 2, 1994, Cathy remained independent and living in Universal City close to her son and daughter. She had four grandson’s whom she dearly loved and enjoyed spending time with and was delighted to acquire two granddaughter’s thru marriage. Cathy was a generous, loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She enjoyed quilting, reading, shopping and luncheons with friends and family. She will be greatly missed and remembered fondly.
Cathy was preceded in death by her husband and parents. She is survived by daughter Debbie (Tywayne) Graef and son Del (Laurie) Cooper. Grandsons Jason and Christopher (Madison) Graef, John (Madison) and Mark Cooper. Other survivors include sisters Jan (John) Khan of California, Alma Davis of California, Alice Christoph of Washington, Barbara & (David) Armstrong and Sue Davis of Louisiana. Brothers are Al (De Lisa) Davis, Sonny (Charlene) Davis, Gary (Kim) Davis all of Louisiana.
Arrangements are under the direction of Colonial Funeral Home, 625 Kitty Hawk Road in Universal City, TX. Visitation is Thursday, 2-20-2020 from 6:00 to 8:00. The service is Friday the 21st at 3:00. Interment will be on Monday, 2-24-2020 at Fort Sam Houston Cemetery at 10:00.
