Cheryl was born in Picayune MS in the spring of 1950 to parents Ethel and RB Vaughn. Cheryl was the youngest of three children and despite a 16 year age gap between her and her nearest sibling, she was incredibly close with her brother, Lynwood, and sister, Olga. Cheryl grew up surrounded by her siblings, cousins, nieces, and nephews- all of whom she remained in contact with.
From an early age, Cheryl excelled in academics, athletics like swimming, and piano. Cheryl was active throughout school and in 1968 she graduated from Picayune High School as Salutatorian. Cheryl then attended Mississippi College for Women. It was her sophomore year when she reconnected with a boy from high school, Glen Givens. Sparks flew immediately and they were quickly married on November 21st, 1969. Those sparks never faded and this November they celebrated their 54th anniversary.
Cheryl’s and Glen’s marriage was strong and full of love, because of this Cheryl leaves behind a legacy of children and grandchildren who love her deeply. She is survived by her husband Glen, her daughters Laura and Jaime, her grandchildren, Hannah, Zachary, and Rylee, and her son-in-law, Frank.
As a military wife Cheryl lived across the United States and abroad making life-long friends everywhere she lived. Eventually, Cheryl would settle in Universal City TX, where she proudly served as an elementary school secretary. Here Cheryl touched the lives of children, teachers and staff, administrators, and parents across Judson ISD. In 2015, Cheryl retired so that she could spend more time with family.
Throughout her life, Cheryl was most often described as “best;” best wife, best friend, best mom, best grandma. Each of these titles were well earned.
Cheryl always had a smile. Her aura filled the room and she made everyone who entered feel welcome. She loved so many with a sincerity that few will understand. She approached life with a commitment to persevering, an enduring stamina, a dedication to tasks, a show of kindness to everyone, an exceptionally caring heart, an appreciation for humor in all forms, and a profound love of Jesus Christ our Lord.
She will be missed by many.
