Chika Combs, age 88, of Universal City, passed away Friday, July 2, 2021. Chika was one of seven children born in Dalian Manchuria. After living through WWII, she returned to mainland Japan eventually making her way to Tokyo where she met her husband, Donald Combs. After several stops around the world with the air force, they settled in Universal City, Texas.
Chika is survived by her son, David and his wife Rebecca. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald.
Chika enjoyed traveling all over the world with her husband which she continued to do as long as her health allowed. When she wasn’t traveling, you could find her tending to her garden, her flowers, or getting lost in one of her many books.
She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and will be deeply missed.
A time of visitation will be held from 10:00AM until 12:00PM Monday, July 26, 2021 at Colonial Funeral Home, 625 Kitty Hawk Rd. Universal City. Chika will be laid to rest with her husband Donald following a 1:00PM Graveside Service at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd. San Antonio.

Living next door since 1980 gave me the chance to chat with Chika (and Don) whenever the chance; including after I moved out on my own. Each time I saw Chika outside I would run over and chat about her trips or her gorgeous Hawaiian trees; what we had been up to, or planning or pretty much anything.
Just very sweet chats that ALWAYS ended with a hug!
David, it has been forever since I've seen you and although our age difference probably kept us from knowing each other much, you've always been thought of. Please accept my deepest sorrows for your loss (and that of Rebecca) and know that your Mother will be lovingly remembered for her kindness and warmth, always.

Donald, I miss Chika greeting me and the conversations we had on the sidewalk as I walked passed her house. Her sweet smile and kind words will remain in my memory of her. Rest In Peace, Chika.
