

Colonel Robert V. Green, USAF (Retired) left this world on October 22, 2016. He was born in Bethel, Missouri on August 7, 1920 to Harry and Vivian Green. At the age of 12 he moved with his family to Chicago. Bob was attending Northwestern when the Japanese hit Pearl Harbor. In March 1942 he enlisted in the Army Aviation Program receiving his pilot wings in February 1943. While at bombardier training in Deming NM, Bob met and married his wife Jo (who preceded him in death). Their 69-year union produced two children, Pamela Vaughn and Michael Green. Pamela had two children, Lee Ann (who has a daughter Taylor), and Wesley (who has a son Keneson). Michael and his wife Denise have two sons, Cooper and Carson.
During WWII Bob was a B29 Superfortress Commander stationed in Guam. Bob flew 26 combat missions over Japan including pre and post Hiroshima recon. During his 30-year Air Force career, Bob flew the Berlin Airlift, flew the B36 Peacemaker during the Korean War, was on the SAC Inspector General Team during the Cuban Missile Crisis, was instrumental in creating the Air Force’s missile testing program, was a Base Commander, was the TAC Operations Inspector General in Vietnam, was commander of the Air Force basic training program, and much more.
After retirement from the military, Bob became the City Manager for Universal City for 10 years. At age 64 Bob created a tax and estate consulting business, which he continued until he was 93. He was an avid golfer and spent many years at Woodlake Country Club serving as President for several years. In addition, Bob was a USGA golf course rater and played in tournaments all over the US. Bob played golf consistently until he was 93, and loved to joke with his family through the years that it was always a good golf day when he shot under his age.
Interment will be held Thursday, November 10th at 1:00 p.m. at Fort Sam National Cemetery located at 1520 Harry Wurzbach Road in San Antonio. A reception will follow at the Fort Sam Houston Country Club.
