Cruz R. Esparza

She was a faithful, devoted wife, grandmother, great grandmother. She loved family. Cruz was the wife of Daniel Esparza for 80 years and a devoted mother of 6 children, grandmother of 15 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren.

Cruz enjoyed sewing. She especially liked making blankets and quilts for children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her hobbies also were, crocheting and embroidery. Cruz loved giving her finished products to her family, friends and church. She also enjoyed bowling with friends and helping with cooking on occasion as needed.

She was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd and always volunteered with the Guadalupana.

Cruz was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel A. Esparza; her son, Jose Maria Esparza; father and mother, Carmen and Catalina Rey; brothers, Carmen Rey and Manuel Rey; sister, Christina R. Primera; and daughters-in-law, Elena Salmon Esparza, Rebecca Ann Rooney Esparza.

She is survived by her daughters, Linda Briseno, Aurora Garza (Daniel Garza), and Ramona Carey (TC Carey); sons, Rogelio Esparza (Mariana) and Samuel Esparza; 8 grandsons, 7 granddaughters, 26 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren and her sister-in-law, Mary E. Primera and Thomasa Rey.

Pallbearers: Joseph S. Esparza, Joseph Esparza, Javier Esparza, John Esparza, Chris Briseno, Danny Garza III.

Visitation will be held at Colonial Funeral Home, 625 Kitty Hawk Road, Universal City, TX 78148, US, on March 24, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, with the Rosary at Colonial Funeral Home on March 24, 2026, from 7:00 pm to 7:30 pm.

A Funeral Mass will be held at Church of the Good Shepherd, 1065 E Live Oak Rd, Schertz, TX 78154, US, on March 25, 2026, from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm.

A Committal Service will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209, US, on March 25, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 2:20 pm.
