Daniel Brice

April 16, 1973February 1, 2019

Daniel Brice of San Antonio, Texas passed away on Friday, February 1, 2019 at the age of 45. He was surrounded by family.

Daniel was born in Fort Jackson, South Carolina on April 16, 1973 to Cleotha and Bonnie Brice.

Dan is preceded in death by his father, Cleotha Brice. He is survived by his mother, Bonnie Brice; his brothers Steven Brice, Nathaniel Brice, Victor Brice and Kenneth Berry; numerous nieces and nephews, in-laws, extended family and other relatives; friends; and his loving wife of eight years, Melissa. They were married on October 10, 2010.

From a military family, Dan spent his childhood moving from place to place, finally settling in San Antonio, TX. He graduated from Robert G. Cole High School in 1991. Dan was always an ambitious person, joining Varsity Club, Future Business Leaders of America, etc. He played numerous sports but his passion was coaching basketball.

Dan and his friend Dave Crum began coaching youth basketball teams at Fort Sam in 1992, moving on to AAU basketball through the 2000's. Dan coached multiple teams and worked with many different organizations. He put a tremendous amount of effort into the kids he coached. He would spend countless weekends on the road, traveling to tournaments across the country and occasionally spending his own money on those who couldn't afford to. His teams were successful, winning many tournaments, and some teams going undefeated. He helped kids get into college and some making it to the NBA.

Despite his calling as a coach, Dan still worked 2 jobs, being loyal almost to a fault, working his full time job for over two decades and his part time job for almost as long. Even though he always had a full plate, Dan still made time for his loved ones. He often spent time with his family. He was faithful to his friends, old and new, still in contact with his group from Germany who earned the title "Heavy D and the Boyz". He earned many endearing nicknames over the years like Heavy D, Big Boi, DB, Biggie, and Dan the Man among many others.

Dan had some health issues, but he did not let anything stop him. He would still go to work and stay active. He still drove himself most places. He still enjoyed life. It was unexpected and a shock to all when his intestine twisted, died, perforated and caused septic shock, resulting in Dan's premature death.

Dan was an amazing man. He gave bear hugs. He had a magnetic personality. He was devoted, passionate, zealous, positive, protective, supportive, generous, persuasive, and rock-like. He loved dogs, cars, and Jordans. He liked to watch cartoons, sports, and funny movies. Dan was a Beautiful Soul with a great smile, full of life and love. He grew on everyone he met and our lives are better for knowing him. He was taken too soon, but his memory will live forever in our hearts.

A visitation for Daniel will be held Wednesday, February 6, 2019 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Colonial Funeral Home, 625 Kitty Hawk Rd, Universal City, TX. A funeral service will occur Thursday, February 7, 2019 at 1:00 PM, 625 Kitty Hawk Rd, Universal City, TX. An interment will occur at Mission South Burial Park, 1700 SE Military Dr, San Antonio, TX.

My condolence to Dan Brice's family for his passing, he was gone so soon. I first met Dan back in 2008 while we're working together over at Avis. He was a fun coworker and friend to be around with. He helped with everyone a lot with the cars that need to be cleaned and we all joke about sports, ranging from football to basketball. Even after I left Avis in 2014, I still keep in touch with him, as I do with most ex-coworkers, most recently texted him about the Miami Miracle (he's a Dolphins fan) and greeted Merry Christmas. Rest in Peace Big Boy, hopefully we will me you again from the other side!

I knew Danny, “Heavy D” in middle school and part of high school. He was always the nicest boy in school. Always. It seems he remained that way for his whole life. He was a treasure. I’m sorry for the loss of someone so meaningful to all that knew him and the community around him.

I first would like to extend my deepest condolences and prayers to Brice's family. I First met him when my ex-husband used to work for Avice, which was a long time ago. Just so happen we came accross each other AGAIN, this time by way of Davita. Bryce was a cool, funny and crazy guy who kept me in stitches every time I saw him. He will be missed. Rest easy my friend, Heaven just gained it's newest Angel.
