

He graduated from Starmont High School in 1971 and later earned both his bachelor’s degree and MBA from Wayland Baptist University in San Antonio, Texas.
David proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and retired as a Senior Master Sergeant in 1994. He continued a life of service through his dedication to Anderson Lodge and the American Legion, where he was a member for more than 30 years. During that time, he served as Past Post Commander of Post 593, Past Finance Officer for the 20th District, and Past State Finance Officer for Texas. David was respected and admired by many and was often the person people turned to for guidance, wisdom, and support.
David will be remembered most for his loyal heart, generous spirit, and the kindness he showed to everyone around him. He had a special way of making people feel welcome, valued, and cared for. Whether he was helping a friend, mentoring someone in need, or simply sharing a conversation, David made a lasting impact on the lives of so many.
He was a devoted fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and the San Antonio Spurs and enjoyed watching college basketball, football, and volleyball. He also faithfully watched Jeopardy! each day, something family and friends fondly remember about him.
To know David was to know loyalty, compassion, and quiet strength. He leaves behind not only family, but dear friends and a community who loved him deeply and will miss him greatly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dell and Eula Paris.
David is survived by his beloved wife, Karen Paris; children, Marc Brown and wife Azalea, Shelly Vernengo and husband Dominic, and Stephanie Doran; grandchildren, Sondra Robison and husband Ben, Isabelle Jacob and husband Christian, and Nolan Vernengo; brother, Dan Paris and wife Val; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and lifelong friends.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made as donations to American Legion Post 593, 326 Legion Drive W, Converse, Texas 78109, for Boys State or Children & Youth programs.
A Committal Service with Full Military Honors will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery on Friday, June 12, 2026, from 10:45 a.m. to 11:05 a.m.
A Celebration of Life will follow the same day at American Legion Post 593; 326 Legion Dr W, Converse, TX 78109 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
