Born December 3, 1929 in Parkersburg, West Virginia, he was the son of Lafe and Elsie West Buchanan. He met the love of his life, Wanda Leona Burkey, and they were married May 19, 1948 in Seguin, Texas.
Mr. Buchanan was a proud U.S. Air Force veteran, serving his country with honor for over 28 years. He primarily worked in Personnel and Recruiting. Mr. Buchanan was the recipient of the Bronze Star medal, among many other awards and commendations. In his free time, he enjoyed bowling, golfing, traveling, and undertook many woodworking projects over the years. His preferred wood to work with was oak.
Mr. Buchanan was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Wanda Buchanan; a brother, Lloyd Buchanan; and a sister, Eloise Lowe. He is survived by his children, Delbert H. “Buck” (Diane) Buchanan, Jr., Debra (Leonard) John, and Barry (Jane) Buchanan; eight grandchildren, Daryl, Nathan, Bryan, Elizabeth, Jeremy, Jessica, Austin and Jacob; fifteen great grandchildren, Esperanza, Jackson, Carter, Kaeleigh, Amber, Lillie, Logan, David, Natalee, Madison, Joshua, Tyler, Levi, Abigail and Savannah; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A time of visitation will be held Monday, February 14, 2022 from 5:00 until 8:00 PM at Colonial Funeral Home, 625 Kitty Hawk Rd. Universal City, TX. The funeral service for Mr. Buchanan will be 1:00 PM Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at Colonial Funeral Home. Following the service, committal service with full military honors will be 2:30 PM at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
Memorials may be made in Mr. Buchanan’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, the American Kidney Foundation, or Hope Hospice.
