On August 20, 2018, Dolores (Dee) Kathryn Clapsaddle passed away at the Army Retirement Community in San Antonio, Texas. She was born on October 24, 1924, in Akron, Ohio, to Lawrence Patrick and Bridgette Marie Dugan. On June 20, 1946, Dee graduated from Akron City Hospital Isabelle Firestone School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse.
On January 10, 1948, Dee married the love of her life, Lt. Col. Charles (Chuck) Henry Clapsaddle. While Chuck served in the U.S. Air Force, the couple traveled around the world living in Brussels, Belgium; El Paso and San Antonio, Texas; Dhahran, Saudi Arabia; and Alexandria, Virginia. They settled in San Antonio after his retirement where they remained happily married until Chuck’s death in 1998. Throughout their lives together, they enjoyed traveling and cultivated a contagious zest for life.
Dee always brought joy and laughter to those around her, never shying away from new people or experiences. She prided herself on her talents in the hosting and entertaining and made sure that everyone she knew felt welcomed in her home no matter where they were from or where Dee and Chuck lived at the time. She was a strong, kind, determined, and loyal woman, who will be sorely missed. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Brett Charles Clapsaddle and Catherine C. Egan; Brett’s wife, Deanna K. Clapsaddle; and her two grandchildren, Kaitlyn C. Harrell and Charles Addison Clapsaddle.
Dee will be buried next to her husband at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas, with a graveside service at 11:15 a.m. on Friday, September 21, 2018, in Shelter 2. Arrangements with Colonial Funeral Home in Universal City, Texas.
