Obituary
EDMAN ANSON HICKS, SMSgt USAF Retired, went home to be with the Lord on August 1, 2026, in Converse, Texas, at the age of 99 Years, 10 Months, 11 Days. Edman was born on September 20, 1926, in Evansville (Centerville), Leon County, Texas. Edman was preceded in death by his wife, Mary M (Dyer) Hicks; his parents, Horace Newton Hicks and Nannie Elizabeth (Robertson) Hicks; 10 siblings: Vada, Earl, William, Hazel (Hicks) Henserling, Carlton, Harvey, Maurine (Hicks) Nixon, Arthur (Art), a twin: Beatrice (Hicks) Miller Hux, and Wilber “O’Daniel”; and Grandson: William Harbert.
He is survived by 2 siblings: a twin, Bernice (Hicks) Schupp, and Robert H Hicks. Children: Kenneth, Thomas (wife Darlene), and Carolyn. Grandchildren: Thomas “Douglas” (wife Patricia) Hicks, Mary “Desiree” Harbert, Travis Hicks. Great-Grandchildren: Hayley Davis Black, Christopher Kimerer, Cecily (Hicks) Flores, Corey McDonald, Alivia Harbert. Great-Great Granddaughters: Alexis Kimerer and Sloane Flores; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and his extended church family.
Edman served in the Army during WW-II, the Army Air Corps, and the USAF (1945-1967, with 22 years of service) until retiring in 1967. He was the longest-living member at 99 years old, a Member for 76 years, and a Past Master of Somerset Masonic Lodge 1205, AF & AM, and Past Patron of Somerset Chapter 730 Order of the Eastern Star. He served overseas in Japan during the occupation after WWII; Korea during the Korean War and afterwards; Guam; Iwo Jima; Hawaii in the Pacific; and Morocco, North Africa. After retiring from the USAF, he worked as a technical instructor and curriculum development unit supervisor at the old Cryptologic Training Group at Lackland AF Base. Immediately after WWII, he served as a radio operations instructor at the US Military Academy, West Point, NY. During his later years, he was a Realtor/Property Manager and an Income Tax specialist for HR Block.
Edman accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior in May 1944 at the age of 17. He was baptized at Somerset First Baptist Church in the baptistry which he helped construct two years earlier. He helped organize Windcrest Baptist Church in San Antonio, Texas in October 1986; on January 18th, 1987, he was ordained as an Elder in the church. He was elected Deacon of Rolling Oaks Baptist, San Antonio in 1995. He served as Chairman of the Building Committee and as a member of the Finance Committee for 8 years, and Chairman of the Pastor Search Committee for 5 years. He served as Treasurer and Chairman of the Building Committee at Windcrest Baptist Church for 8 years. He was a member of Northeast Baptist Church, San Antonio, where he served as a Deacon, Trustee, and served in the Helping Hands Ministry.
His final residence was at AVIR of Converse, Texas (formerly Rosewood of Converse). He was also cared for by AIP Hospice Care. His family wishes to extend their deepest appreciation to the staff and attendants for their loving care for Edman. He loved them all dearly.
Visitation will be held on August 21, 2026; 11:30am to 12:25pm, with a Funeral Service to immediately follow at Colonial Funeral Home, 625 Kitty Hawk Road, Universal City, TX 7814.
Following the service, a Funeral Procession will proceed to Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209, for a 2:30pm., Committal Service with full Military Honors.
