Edward “Bucky” Nava Reyna, age 88, passed away peacefully on the morning of January 30, 2026, at his home in Live Oak, Texas. He was born on June 16, 1937, in San Antonio, Texas, to Maria de la Luz Nava (Juarez) and Eddie Lopez.
Edward was raised on San Antonio’s Southside by his devoted mother, alongside his older brothers, Gilbert and Raymond, and his older sister, Zoila. His mother later married his beloved stepfather, Jose M. Juarez, and together, they welcomed his younger sister, Guadalupe.
“Bucky” attended Burbank High School, Class of 1956, where he served as parliamentarian of the Vocational Industrial Club and was a member of the Metal Shop Club. After graduation, he worked briefly for the U.S. Post Office before enlisting in the United States Navy. He often shared stories of the travels and experiences his Navy service afforded him—memories he cherished deeply. Following his military service, Edward continued supporting the armed forces through a distinguished civil service career, working in Electronics at Kelly Air Force Base for over 32 years until its closure.
He was immensely proud of his military service, as reflected in his lifetime membership with VFW Post No. 9186, where he served as Judge Advocate for several years.
Known to most as Eddie, he had a lifelong passion for electronics, which he turned into a small television repair business during the 1970s. In his later years, he and his wife, Margie, enjoyed attending the senior program at G.R.A.S.P. (Greater Randolph Area Service Program) in Converse, Texas. There, they spent many happy hours socializing with newfound friends, playing cards, and enjoying bingo.
Ed was known for his winning smile and playful sense of humor. He found humor in nearly everything and could tell a joke at a moment’s notice. His love of music often led him to sing and dance spontaneously. Most notably, he was famous for dancing Tejano music with his lifelong partner, his wife Margie. Friends fondly nicknamed them the Hispanic version of “Fred and Ginger,” as they were always the first on the dance floor and danced the night away.
Above all else, Eddie’s greatest joy was the life he built with his beloved wife, Margarita Cortez, whom he married on December 30, 1962. He often spoke of how lucky he was to have found her, cherishing and adoring her throughout their more than 63 years together. Together, they raised five children.
Edward was preceded in death by his sons, Edward Jr. and Eric Reyna; his mother & father; his brothers; and his older sister. He is survived by his loving wife, Margarita; his children, Ruth Guerrero and son-in-law Estevan, Sylvia Reyna, and Ernesto Reyna; twelve grandchildren—Bianca, Ahmed, JP, Natalie, Gabrielle, Cortez, Avery, Jasmine, Evan, Stefan, Savannah, and Nicole; and five great-grandchildren: Zaiden, Deztin, Prezley, Max, and Jean. He is also survived by countless nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends, all of whom he considered part of his large extended family.
Edward lived a full and joyful life, defined by love, laughter, and devotion to family. His memory will live on in all who knew and loved him.
