

2018. She was born on a farm near Savage, Minnesota, and moved to Shakopee, Minnesota, at an early
age. Born to William and Laura Marschall, she had a sister, Rita, and two brothers, Vincent and
Raymond. After high school she moved to Chicago and worked for the Cargill Company. She joined her
fiance, Harold Pink, at Camp Cooke, Lompoc, California, and they were married October 18, 1942, before
he was sent overseas during WW II. Esther always expressed great pride in the fact that she was a
charter member of the Women's Auxiliary of the Shakopee, Minnesota, chapter of the Veterans of
Foreign Wars (VFW).
She joined Harold at Camp Polk, Louisiana, after the war and had their first son, Chris (wife Ann).
Two more sons were born in Tokyo, Japan, Mike (wife Vielka) and George (wife Bonnie). Their last child
Tim was born in Frankfurt, Germany. Esther is survived by her children, five grandchildren, and
three great-grandchildren. Harold retired from the U.S. Army in 1966 as a Chief Warrant Officer (CWO-
4) in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where the children finished their education. She was employed at that
time with the U. S. Civil Service and retired after 20 years of service as a GS-9. Harold and Esther moved
to Universal City, Texas, in 1989 to be near family.
Services will be at Colonial Funeral Home in Universal City. Visitation on March 6, 5-9 PM with rosary at
7 PM. Funeral Services at 9 AM, March 7, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Schertz, TX, with
Interment at Ft. Sam National Cemetery immediately following.
