Gary graduated from Ackerly High School in 1963 and went on to attend Howard Junior College. Throughout his career, he spent more than 30 years in management and business ownership, earning the respect of colleagues and friends through his hard work, leadership, and dedication.
Faith was a cornerstone of Gary’s life. A lifelong church member, he faithfully served as a deacon for many years and was actively involved on the personnel committee. He was always willing to lend a helping hand—whether supporting his children’s youth groups, maintaining church grounds, or assisting families in need. His servant’s heart touched many lives within his church and community.
Gary was also a longtime member of the Lions Club and participated in various Chambers of Commerce throughout the years. He was a passionate advocate for small businesses and took great pride in supporting the success of others.
Early in life, Gary was blessed with four daughters: Kari, Kim, Kristi, and Kody. In September 2000, he married Karen. Gary often joked that this was the day they officially became “Mr. Wrong and Mrs. Right.” Through their marriage, Gary also gained the son he never had, Corey, whom he loved as his own.
An avid fisherman, Gary spent countless hours on the water, and with each passing year, his fish stories seemed to grow right along with the size of his catches. We are certain that by now, everyone in heaven has heard about some of the “biggest fish” he ever caught.
When he wasn’t fishing, Gary could often be found in the middle of a woodworking project. He loved building furniture and creating beautiful pieces for family and friends. Sharing his craftsmanship brought him great joy, and many will treasure the items he made with his own hands.
Gary’s sense of humor never left him, even in his final days. He kept nurses and doctors smiling and on their toes with his quick wit and playful spirit. When asked how he was feeling, he would flash a grin and reply, “With my fingers.”
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Billy and Patsy Gaskins; his in-laws, Jim and Betty Miles; his daughter, Kari Gaskins; and his brother-in-law, Chuck Rhodes.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 25 years, Karen Gaskins; his daughters, Kim Delz, Kristi Rodriguez (Jorge), and Kody West (Mikal); his son, Corey Barton (Anna); his sister, Sandy Rhodes; 10 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will cherish his memory forever.
Funeral services are pending at this time. Details will be announced as they become available.
