

Gary Wayne Mahoney, 79, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2026. He was born on November 18, 1946, in Cherokee, Iowa, and lived a life defined by service, hard work, and unwavering love for his family.
A proud graduate of Cherokee High School, Class of 1965, Gary went on to serve his country with honor in the United States Air Force, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. Following his military service, he built a successful career as a Nissan Service Advisor, where he was known for his dedication, integrity, and willingness to help others.
On June 28, 1969, Gary married the love of his life, Sherry Graves. Together they shared 57 wonderful years of marriage, creating a home filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Gary found his greatest joy in spending time with his family. He loved fishing, had a passion for building and racing cars, and rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on his grandchildren at their sporting events and activities. His quiet strength, generous heart, quick wit, and steady presence touched everyone who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his father, Wayne Mahoney; his mother, Bernice Mahoney; and his brother, John Mahoney.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Sherry Mahoney; his daughters, Heidi Cramberg and Julie Morgan; his son-in-law, Lavelle Morgan; and his treasured grandchildren, Emily Cramberg, Aiden Cramberg, Ethan Cummings, Avery Cummings, and Mason Walling. He also leaves behind many extended family members and dear friends who will miss him deeply.
Gary’s legacy of love, service, and devotion to his family will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Though he will be profoundly missed, his family finds comfort in the countless memories they shared and the lasting impact he made on their lives.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the outstanding nurses and staff of the Intensive Care Unit at NE Methodist Hospital for the compassionate care, kindness, and dignity they showed Gary and his family during his final days. Your professionalism and heartfelt support will never be forgotten.
Visitation will be held at Colonial Funeral Home, 625 Kitty Hawk Rd., Universal City, TX 78148, on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, from 5:30pm. to 7:30pm.
Funeral Service will be held at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 1129 Pat Booker Rd., Universal City, TX 78148, on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at 11:00am., with a reception immediately following at the church.
Following the reception, a Funeral Procession will proceed to Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209, for a 2:00pm., Committal Service with full Military Honors.
