

Gary Tibbetts Prescott, age 76, passed away on October 26, 2016. He was born on January 13, 1940 in Malden, Massachusetts, to Harold and Elizabeth Prescott. He and his younger sister, Meribah, grew up in Massachusetts and relocated to Palos Heights, Illinois, near Chicago in the 1950’s. He attended Lyons Township Junior College studying Pre-Engineering, where he met his wife to be, Carole Ann Read. They wed on July 1, 1961.
Gary entered in to the United States Air Force and attended Air Force Flight School. He proudly served in the Air Force for 20 years as a pilot and later as an aircraft maintenance staff officer. Having completed two tours during the Vietnam War, he earned the Bronze Star, the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with palm, and the Meritorious Service Medal with three oak leaf clusters.
While stationed at Randolph AFB, Gary retired from military service remaining in Universal City, Texas, to raise his family. He was self-employed as a general contractor and began restoring houses. A skilled carpenter, he enjoyed making furniture for his family. He spent his leisure time building model trains, researching genealogy, traveling and spending time with family, especially grandchildren. He was a lifelong Braves fan and loved watching the Spurs, as well.
Gary is survived by his wife, Carole; their son, Greg, and his wife, Christy, and their children Courtnie, Morgan, Mason and Carson; their daughter, Catherine (Carrie), and her husband, Joe Johnston, and their children, Olivia, Julia and William. He is also survived by his sister, Meribah Diodati of North Smithfield, Rhode Island.
Services will be held for Gary and for his mother, Elizabeth, who passed away October 13, 2016. Services will be at the Universal City United Methodist Church on Monday, November 7, 2016 at 10:30am, followed by burial service for Gary at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery at 1:00pm. A reception will be held at the Alamo Heights United Methodist Church at 1:30pm. Elizabeth will be buried in Oak Grove Cemetery in Fall River, Massachusetts in a separate service. Donations in memory of Gary can be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Universal City United Methodist Church.
