

George Treviño, age 70, passed away on March 16, 2013 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on August 30, 1942 in San Antonio to Ruben and Genevieve (Ramirez) Treviño. Survived by his loving wife, NormaTreviño; 3 daughters-Rachael Treviño, Andrea Paton, & Diana Gallaga (Rupert), 2 sons-MatthewTreviño (Hasheme) & DavidTreviño ; & 9 grandchildren-Grace, Roman, Titus, Tysen, Camden, Jaysen, Tyler, Aaron, and Adam. He is preceded in death by his parents.
From humble beginnings, George grew up as an only child in the “barrios” of San Antonio. He was raised by his mother Genevieve, a single parent. At an early age, he learned the value of hard work and a good education. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in San Antonio. Later he moved to complete a bachelor’s degree in mathematics at A&I-Kingsville. He worked at White Sands Missile Range, NM as a cooperative education student. This experience ignited his interest in science and engineering. Moving to Lehigh University in PA to attend graduate school, he earned both a Master and Ph.D. in Mechanics.
Upon graduation from Lehigh University, George worked at Grumman Aerospace Corporation as a research scientist. He later moved to Corpus Christi to teach mathematics and physics courses as a professor at Del Mar College. As a post-doctoral candidate he returned back to White Sands Missile Range to work as a researcher. In 1983, he moved to Michigan to work as a professor in the Mechanical Engineering Dept. at Michigan Technological University. Retiring to San Antonio, he continued to work on his research and collaborated with other scientists.
George was involved in the church as a volunteer lector, and Eucharistic minister. He had a deep abiding love for God and his family. George truly had a beautiful mind and soul. He touched many lives. He will be greatly missed.
