Georgia “Jo” Lumpkin was born July 24,1927, in Washington, D.C., and died May 28, 2016 at Blue Skies of Texas in San Antonio. She attended George Washington University, was a member of Delta Zeta sorority, and graduated with a B.A. in Education in 1950. She worked at the Pentagon and there met her future husband, Lt. Col. William L. Lumpkin. They married in 1951 and she accompanied him on various tours of duty until his retirement.
On his retirement from Kelly Air Force Base, they moved to Windcrest, Texas. He served as mayor of Windcrest while she was President of the Wives Club, Bridge Chairman, and Windcrest Lite-Up Chairman. They traveled the United States in bridge tournaments; the American Contract Bridge League accorded her the status of Life Master. Georgia was a life spark to her family, neighbors, and community. Often she was the first to volunteer when she heard a call for help and service.
Her husband died in 2000 and she moved to Air Force Village, San Antonio, in 2002. She is survived by their son Mark of Hummelstown, Pennsylvania. Also left to honor her memory are nieces and nephews Donna and Ronnie Rogers of Atlanta, Georgia; Marty and Janet Lumpkin of Terrell, Texas; and Terry Lumpkin of Houston, as well as special friends Joe and Virginia Regan of Windcrest. Georgia loved her life in the Blue Skies of Texas community with many friends as the fruits of her later years.
A memorial service will be held in the chapel of Blue Skies of Texas on Thursday, June 2, at 2:00.
