

Gloria Mariam Gwinnup Bissey, beloved wife of Robert “Bob” O. Bissey, Sr. (deceased) for sixty-seven years, devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt passed away October 30, 2023, in San Antonio, Texas. Born in Seattle, Washington on March 13, 1935, she was the daughter of Roy and Roma Richards Edmonds. After growing up in Everett, WA and later San Antonio, TX, she graduated with her B.A. from Colorado State College in Greeley in 1957. While there, she met and married Bob in Kimball, NE on December 11, 1955. They raised three children Robert, Phyllis, and Ralph. Bob joined the United States Air Force in 1958 and served until 1978 reaching the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. During his years of service, Gloria and Bob lived in various parts of the United States and Canada.
In 1970, they moved to Universal City, Texas where Bob and Gloria were active members of Universal City United Methodist Church. She participated in the church choir, UCUMC Car Club, Walk to Emmaus, and Home Room. She was also a member of the Officers’ Wives Club of Randolph Air Force Base. Gloria was also a member of the Texas Motorcycle Riders Association, a charter member of the American Motorcycle Association, and a member of the BMW Motorcycle Association of America.
After Bob’s retirement from the Air Force, he started his own business, R-Fixit Sign Company and Gloria worked with him. Bob and Gloria loved spending time with their family as well as traveling throughout the United States either by RV or by motorcycle as well as traveling abroad. They loved geocaching and were known as the Double Agents. They shared their enthusiasm for the hobby with family and friends.
Gloria loved to cook and entertain family and friends during the holidays and throughout the year. She is known for several of her famous recipes including her homemade cinnamon rolls and dinner rolls at the holiday time. She enjoyed playing bridge and mahjong with friends. Gloria also loved to read, work puzzles, work on her computer and play sudoku. She was an active hiker and walker and worked continuously around the house and yard. She continued to do these things until the time Alzheimer’s took away her ability to remember how to do things. Above all, she was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother and dedicated her life to taking care of her husband and children. She raised her children to always be honest and respectful with good moral values. She was an excellent role model for her family. Gloria was very proud of all her children, grandchildren, and great- grandchildren.
Gloria is survived her children Robert Bissey, Jr. and wife Laura Thompson Bissey of Cypress, Phyllis Bissey Free and husband Tim of Lake Alfred, Florida, and Ralph Bissey and wife Patty Camacho Bissey of Bulverde, Texas. She is also survived by her ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren: Megan Bissey Randall and husband Jess (children June and Wade), Alaina Bissey Coleman and husband Seth, Lauren Bissey Turner and husband Trevor (daughter Rose), Leah Bissey Caskey and husband Grant (children Rowen and Dean), Sean Free and Phillip Pridgen, Kyle Free and wife Ketura (children Trinity, Tyler Scarlett, and Eden), Shannon Free Rock and husband Jon (daughter Davie), Bianca Bissey Ward and husband Cody (son Theo), Angelina Bissey and fiancé Robert Pistocchi, and Mia Bissey. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Ron Bissey of Glendale, AZ. In addition, she is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is predeceased by her husband Robert “Bob” Bissey, Sr., brother-in-law Grant Bissey, sister-in -law Linda McEwen and husband Gary, sister-in-law JoAnn Bissey, and sister Carol Flores.
A committal service for Robert and Gloria Bissey will take place at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, (Shelter #3) in San Antonio, Texas on Friday, January 26, 2024 at 1:15 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Universal City United Methodist Church, 90 Winn Avenue Universal City TX 78148, or to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
