He was born in San Antonio, Texas, on May 25, 1931, to Jesus and Emilia Contreras. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 21 years, dedicating much of his life to service.
After retiring from his military career, Gregorio became a business owner, owning and operating Western Auto, Otasco, and a Sears store. He took pride in his work and in providing for his family and community.
In his free time, Gregorio enjoyed woodworking in his garage, where he spent many hours creating projects with his own hands. He took great pride in the things he built and found joy in the time spent working on his craft.
Above all, Gregorio cherished his family. He deeply loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and his family will remember him for the love and memories they shared throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ramona; daughter-in-law, Maricela; his parents, Emilia and Jesus Contreras; and ten brothers and sisters.
Gregorio is survived by his children, Gregorio Contreras, Jr. (Maricela +), Anna (Mike), Victor (Maryjo), and David; his ten grandchildren, Greg Albert, Alan (Scarlet), Eric (Sarah), Melissa (Mike), Theresa (Jonathan), Elizabeth (Cedric), Tony (Sam), Lora (Dion), Chris, and Greg; as well as numerous great-grandchildren.

Services will be held on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at St. Monica Catholic Church, 501 North Street, Converse, Texas 78109.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 11:00 a.m.
Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 p.m.
Reception from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Interment will take place at 3:00pm at Holy Cross Cemetery, 17502 Nacogdoches Road, San Antonio, Texas 78266.
