Helen Devitt,86, passed away June 21 in San Antonio, Texas, surrounded by her loving family. Helen was a native Fultonian and graduated from Fulton High School in 1948. She was predeceased by her husband, James Devitt of Smith Falls, Ontario; her parents Irving and Helen Galusha;her brother James Galusha. She is survived y 4 daughters: Sandra Kranz, Lynda (Tony) Angeleri, Karen (Van) Wiles, Nancy (Dave) Cawthon, 12 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 2 sisters : Nancy (John) Thomas of Reston, Va. and Donna (Alfred)Allen of Fulton, and several nieces and nephews.
Helen received a degree in Library Science from Syracuse University. She was a school librarian in Fulton and in San Antonio for a number of years.
She and her family lived in multiple places in the United States and Europe as they followed her husband's career in the U S Army. He retired as a Colonel and they settled inSan Antonio where she has lived for over 40 years.
Prior to settling in Texas the family lived in Fulton. The 4 daughters ( Sandy, Lynda, Karen, and Nancy) graduated from Fulton High School and were outstanding swimmers, tennis players and volleyball players. Jim Devitt taught English at Fulton High School and coached tennis. Helen was an elementary school librarian. The daughters and their families are now all residents of Texas. Helen battled health issues for the past 5 years and will be remembered for her courage and optimism. She was deeply loved and will be sorely missed.
